Following days of character teasers and massive hype at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger have officially announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The follow-up to the 2022 Anime of the Year winner will premiere globally on Netflix in Fall 2026 as a 10-episode standalone series.
A New Standalone Story | Vengeance in Night City
Described by the creators as a "raw chronicle of redemption and revenge," Edgerunners 2 explores different facets of Night City's criminal underworld. Early reactions from the 6,000 attendees who watched the premiere episode at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles compared the tone to Scorsese crime films — viscerally intimate but cinematically ambitious.
The new crew features four brand-new protagonists, each pulled from a different corner of Night City's fractured social strata:
- Weak — A washed-up veteran edgerunner formerly known as "King," forced to survive Night City without any chrome after losing everything.
- D — A Snake Nation netrunner hunting the killer who wiped out his clan, uncovering deadly corporate secrets along the way.
- Roman Carax — A young cinephile obsessed with documenting the ugly truth of other people's lives in a city addicted to artificial braindances.
- Talia Yang — A woman raised in the corporate towers but hardened by the violent, chrome-obsessed culture of the Maelstrom gang.
Creative Team | Ikarashi Directs, Sztybor Returns
While Edgerunners 2 brings a new cast, the creative pedigree behind the scenes remains elite:
- Director: Kai Ikarashi (SSSS.Gridman, director of Edgerunners Episode 6 "Girl on Fire")
- Series Composition: Masahiko Otsuka (returning from Season 1)
- Character Design: Ichigo Kanno
- Showrunner / Story: Bartosz Sztybor (Hugo Award-winning writer, returning from Season 1)
- Music: Tsuneo Imahori (original score)
Sztybor's return ensures the narrative remains authentically tethered to the lore of the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. His previous work on the original series — alongside Hiroyuki Imaishi's direction — produced one of the most emotionally resonant anime finales in recent memory. Ikarashi's Episode 6 was widely cited as a production standout, making him a natural choice to helm the full second season.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres globally on Netflix in Fall 2026. A specific date has not been announced. The original Edgerunners released on September 13, 2022 — a September or October 2026 window is likely based on the same seasonal strategy.
The series will launch all 10 episodes simultaneously in Netflix's standard drop format, with subtitles and dubbed audio in multiple languages. The English dub cast has not yet been announced.
