The galaxy is burning, and the Emperor is feeling the heat.
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have officially debuted the first full trailer for Dune: Part Three, offering fans their first look at director Denis Villeneuve's final chapter in the acclaimed sci-fi trilogy. Released July 8, 2026, the trailer sets a grim and visually stunning stage ahead of the film's theatrical and IMAX premiere on December 18, 2026.
Based on Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, the film picks up nearly two decades after the events of Dune: Part Two. Paul Atreides has seized control of the Imperium, but ruling a galaxy born from a brutal holy war proves far more dangerous than conquering it.
A Hardened Emperor | Paul Atreides Confronts His Own Empire
The trailer highlights a darker, more introspective chapter. Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides sporting a hardened, ruthless demeanor and a striking new look. The footage showcases the crushing weight of his rule as he confronts the catastrophic fallout of his rise to power, haunted by prescient visions of a future he cannot fully control.
Villeneuve's framing draws directly from Herbert's novel: the empire Paul built was never meant to be a utopia. The jihad carried out in his name killed billions. Dune Messiah is the story of a messiah who knows he is a false prophet but cannot stop what he set in motion.
Chani's Resistance | A Fractured Romance at the Core
Equally central to the trailer is the shattered relationship between Paul and Chani (Zendaya). Still reeling from Paul's decision to take the throne and marry Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) in Part Two, Chani is depicted preparing for open conflict. Her resistance is positioned as the emotional spine of the film, a counterweight to Paul's cold imperial calculus.
New Cast | Robert Pattinson and Anya Taylor-Joy Debut
Among the biggest reveals in the trailer is the debut of Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a shape-shifting Face Dancer from the enigmatic Bene Tleilaxu. One of the chief conspirators in the plot against Paul's throne, Scytale is one of Herbert's most unsettling creations, and Pattinson's casting is a clear signal that Villeneuve is leaning into the uncanny, psychological horror elements of Dune Messiah.
The trailer also confirms a significant expanded role for Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Paul's sister, now fully grown. Alia's arc in the novel is one of Herbert's most tragic, and Taylor-Joy's casting signals major screen time. The footage also strongly hints at the return of Jason Momoa's Duncan Idaho as the cloned Ghola known as Hayt, confirming widespread fan speculation.
