Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in Fall 2026. A PC version has not been announced, and Take-Two's CFO explicitly excluded PC and mobile from the publisher's fiscal year ending March 2027 revenue forecast. Based on Rockstar's own release history, a PC launch before late 2027 is unlikely. This is why.
1. What Take-Two Has Confirmed | Console First, PC Later
During Take-Two's February 2026 earnings call, CFO Lainie Goldstein confirmed that GTA 6 is a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S title for Rockstar's fiscal year ending March 2027. When asked directly about the PC and mobile SKUs, she stated they were not reflected in the company's current guidance.[1]
Take-Two's fiscal year ends March 31. If GTA 6 PC were launching within 12 months of the console release, it would fall inside their FY2027 guidance window. Its explicit exclusion from that window means PC is either FY2028 (April 2027 to March 2028) or later. Combined with Rockstar's historical pattern, FY2028 is the most likely target, pointing to a window of approximately late 2027 to early 2028.

2. Rockstar PC Release History | A Pattern 15 Years Old
Rockstar has delayed PC releases on every major title since GTA 4 in 2008. The company has never launched a major title simultaneously on PC and console. The reasoning is not arbitrary: PC ports require additional anti-cheat infrastructure, driver compatibility across thousands of GPU and CPU combinations, modding API decisions, and Rockstar's own custom launcher integration.[2]
GTA 5's 18-month gap was the longest in the studio's recent history and was driven in part by the decision to rebuild the title for the PS4/Xbox One generation before porting to PC. Red Dead Redemption 2's 13-month gap was the shortest and was considered an anomaly by Rockstar's own standards. The studio attributed the faster PC turnaround for RDR2 to starting PC development earlier in the production cycle.
GTA 6 is a larger and more complex title than either predecessor. The open world is larger than GTA 5's Los Santos and Blaine County combined, and the PC port must support the same ray tracing features, ambient AI systems, and weather simulation running on console at a wide range of PC hardware configurations.[3]
Why the Delay Benefits Rockstar:
3. GTA Online PC | The Complicating Factor
GTA Online is Rockstar's primary live service revenue engine, generating hundreds of millions annually as of 2026. The PC version of GTA Online has historically run on a separate server infrastructure from console and has suffered from persistent cheating and modding issues that Rockstar has addressed through multiple anti-cheat iterations.[4]
For GTA 6 Online, Rockstar will need to decide whether the PC version shares the same servers as console or runs a separate ecosystem. The GTA 5 PC Online decision to keep separate servers was driven by the anti-cheat challenge. If Rockstar attempts cross-play between PC and console for GTA 6 Online, the PC launch complexity increases substantially and the timeline extends further.
The Risk Scenario:
4. What PC Players Should Actually Do | Realistic Planning
The most conservative realistic window is Fall 2027, which would represent a 12-month gap matching the fastest Rockstar PC turnaround. The base case, given title complexity and the absence of Take-Two guidance, is early 2028. An announcement of a specific PC date before the console launch would be a genuine surprise.
PC players who are holding out for the PC version should be aware that the console version of GTA 6 will likely receive multiple major content updates before the PC version ships. Rockstar typically treats the first 12 months as a console-exclusive content window. The PC version at launch will likely include all content shipped in that period, making it the more complete product at a disadvantage of 12 to 18 months of waiting.
For the latest updates on the console launch, the GTA 6 release date hub is updated as Rockstar and Take-Two make announcements. See also our Take-Two earnings analysis for the revenue context behind the launch window decisions.
Why This Matters:
There is no scenario where Rockstar rushes the PC version of GTA 6. Their PC ports are deliberate, revenue-timed, and launch as the definitive edition. The delay is the strategy.
